Problems with slow wireless connection speeds on one brand new laptop

  • Asus ROG750JW
  • Windows 8 64bit
  • Intel i7 Haswell
  • Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter
  • Qualcomm Atheros AR8171/8175 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30)

I just purchased this G750 gaming notebook the 13th of this month. I have run into a huge problem with the internet abilities on this machine. The wireless connection is extremely slow compared to speeds on the same connection on my older laptop.

On the new G750, I'm getting about 0.35mbps/s, although while connected to the same network, just on my older Acer Aspire, I'm getting around 2.7mbps/s (normal considering I have a 3mbps connection because of where I live).

The G750's wireless card is an 802.11ac card, whereas the card on my Acer Aspire is 802.11n.

My router is a Netgear B90-755044-15, which only operates on 802.11b/g/n

ISP is frontier connections.

I am at a loss as to what I should do. I have tried updating the drivers on the G750, uninstalling them from the system then doing a restart to reinstall, I have contacted my ISP and they provided the same bull shit that they would get someone to check on the line.

Do I need a new router? I would really appreciate some help, I need this laptop to work and REALLY do not want to go through the 10+ day process of sending it back to ASUS.
