Having a crazy Windows problem, please help if you can.

I'm using Windows 8. Something I did threw Windows Explorer into a reboot loop and it is opening up hundreds of "Thumbnail Handler Extraction Host" in task manager. I've narrowed down the problem, I think. I placed a file on my desktop that I need to delete, but I have no idea how to go about doing that. Everytime I attempt to view the item to delete it, explorer crashes. I also have no idea what the exact name of the file is. If anyone knows a fix and could explain it to me step by step, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thank you.
